The Dawn of Modern Art: How Impressionism Revolutionized the Art World

In the heart of 19th century Paris, a revolutionary art movement was brewing, challenging the traditional norms of art and paving the way for modern artistry. The Birth of Impressionism

Before the advent of Impressionism, the art scene was dominated by grand historical subjects, mythological scenes, and traditional themes. The Salon, the main art exhibition in Paris, favored these conservative themes,

often rejecting works that did not conform to their standards. However, a group of artists yearned for independence and the freedom to

explore new artistic horizons.

The Anonymous Society of Artists

Refusing to bow down to the restrictive expectations of the Salon, a group of artists formed the Anonymous Society of Painters, Sculptors, and Printmakers. This society aimed to break free from the traditional art norms and organized their own exhibitions, the first of which took place in 1874 in the studio of French photographer Nadar. This society spearheaded the Impressionist movement and included renowned artists such as Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Berthe Morisot. Over the next 12 years, they held eight exhibitions, showcasing their unique and modern approach to art.
